Energy System 2050 – A Contribution of the Research Field Energy

Energie-System-2050

With its top-level research in six research fields, the Helmholtz Association contributes to solving major challenges in society, science and industry. One of these challenges is the successful transformation of our current energy system to a reliable, safe and sustainable energy system by 2050 – in Germany known as the Energiewende.

The eight Helmholtz Centers in the research field Energy have joined forces in the initiative Energy System 2050 to pursue a systemic approach in which technological, economic and social aspects are all taken into account at the same time. The interdisciplinary team’s main goals are to improve the understanding of energy systems and to develop concrete technological solutions by 2020 to be taken up by industry and politics.
