On 15 October 2025, a delegation from Western University (Canada) visited the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). President Alan Shepard and Vice-President Dave Muir met with Vice-President Thomas Hirth and representatives from research, teaching and the KIT Energy Centre to further expand the strategic partnership. By signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), both sides reaffirmed their goal of developing joint research and study programmes.

The focus was on a planned double-degree bachelor's programme in engineering, which is being coordinated with the help of Prof. Marc Hiller and Prof. Kai Furmans. During their visit to the KIT Energy Lab, the guests gained impressive insights into current research work on energy systems and power-to-X technologies. A return visit by the KIT Energy Centre to Western University is planned for March 2026 to further deepen the cooperation.
