Prof. Shu-San Hsiau (Taiwan) – Exchange on hydrogen research
-
On 18 September 2025, we welcomed Prof. Shu-San Hsiau, President of National Central University (NCU) and Head of the Hydrogen Energy Programme at the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) in Taiwan, to the KIT Energy Centre on the North Campus. The aim of the visit was to exchange ideas on energy research, particularly hydrogen technologies, and to discuss strategies for net-zero emissions by 2050.
Prof. Hsiau presented NCU's activities in energy research and explained the role of the NSTC. Oliver Schmidt, Head of International Affairs at KIT, gave an overview of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and its international collaborations. Prof. Daniel Banuti then presented the KIT Energy Centre, its research priorities and real-world laboratories, including the Institute for Thermal Energy Technology and Safety (ITES) and the HYKA hydrogen test centre.
The visit continued at the Energy Lab, where Michael Rubin and Jan Wachter explained the SEnSSiCC control centre and the Power-to-X facilities.
The exchange highlighted the parallels in the energy transition challenges facing both countries and provided a platform for discussions on joint strategies, international programmes, and possible collaborations in the field of energy research. We look forward to continuing this dialogue!
