Delegation trip to Namibia to establish a green hydrogen economy

  • From 7 to 12 September 2025, the KIT Energy Centre, represented by Dr Walter Tromm, took part in a delegation trip to Namibia organized by BW-i. The trip highlighted the momentum behind green hydrogen initiatives: many projects are receiving funding, while others are still in the pilot phase.

Visits included the Global African Hydrogen Summit in Windhoek and project and industrial sites in Walvis Bay. Discussions with NUST and UNAM focused on possible cooperation in hydrogen research and energy technology. Further discussions with ministries, project developers and investors addressed technical system integration, water and desalination issues for electrolysis, and joint research and training projects. Teaching and training should play a central role in all areas. On this basis, follow-up contacts can be initiated to flesh out joint projects.
