Visit of Tsinghua University to KIT
-
From January 19 to 21, 2026, a delegation from Tsinghua University (China), led by Prof. Peixue Jiang (Vice President of the University Council), visited KIT for a three-day visit and workshop to strengthen cooperation in research and teaching in the field of energy.
Several institutes and laboratories at the KIT Center for Energy were involved in the visit, including the Energy Lab, the Institute of Thermal Energy Technology and Safety (ITES), the Institute of Microstructure Technology (IMT), and the Institute of Lighting Technology (LTI). Through laboratory tours, workshops, and strategic discussions, both sides exchanged information on research progress and explored future opportunities for collaboration. Key topics included the energy transition, heating and hydrogen technologies, solar energy, advanced energy materials, and other emerging energy technologies. In addition, discussions took place regarding graduate education and energy-related programs, including the Karlsruhe School of Optics & Photonics (KSOP) and the KIT Graduate School “Enabling Net Zero” (ENZo).
The visit was an important step toward strengthening academic exchange between two leading universities in China and Germany. KIT and Tsinghua University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The MoU provides the formal framework for further strategic cooperation.
The visit followed up on a previous stay by Prof. Jiang at KIT in February of last year, during which the foundations for the cooperation had already been laid and the conclusion of an MoU had been agreed upon. With the current delegation visit, this partnership was further solidified and deepened in substance.
